The Advanced Reef course prepares participants to independently conduct reef surveys and support baseline, monitoring, and impact assessment programmes for coastal and offshore projects.
Participants will be able to:
Conduct structured reef surveys using standard methods
Apply transects, quadrats, and photo/video techniques
Assess reef health indicators (live coral cover, bleaching, mortality, recruitment)
Evaluate impacts from sedimentation, turbidity, and coastal activities
Analyse basic reef data and interpret trends
Prepare technical reef survey reports
Phase 1 – Online Advanced Theory
Reef survey methodologies
Impact pathways and pressure indicators
Data quality, bias, and QA/QC
Phase 2 – Field / In-Water Operational Training
Transect and quadrat deployment
Photo and video survey techniques
Data validation and field reporting
Completion of Basic Reef
or equivalent field experience
